Epidermolysis Bullosa is a rare genetic disorder caused by a mutation in the keratin gene (keratin 5 & 9).

In people born with epidermolysis bullosa, the two skin layers lack the anchors that hold them together.

This affects the stratum basale and the stratum corneum layers of the epidermis.

This disorder is restricted to the epidermis of palms and soles.
