- Epidermolysis Bullosa is a rare genetic disorder caused by a mutation in the keratin gene (keratin 5 & 9).
- In people born with epidermolysis bullosa, the two skin layers lack the anchors that hold them together.
- This affects the stratum basale and the stratum corneum layers of the epidermis.
- This disorder is restricted to the epidermis of palms and soles.
