- Lack of PTH causes hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia.
- Is most commonly a result of thyroid surgery, or it is congenital
- Is characterized by the following:
a) decreased serum [Ca2+] (hypocalcemia) and tetany
b) increased serum [phosphate] (hyperphosphatemia)
c) decreased urinary phosphate excretion
