- Mineralization is impaired.
- Condition in which bone becomes progressively softened.
- This defect is due to a defect in mineralization of bone resulting from reduced Vitamin D
- This condition can result from reduced osteoblast activity while osteoclast activity is normal or even related.
- Calcium deficiency in adults gives rise to osteomalacia which is characterized by deficient calcification of recently formed bone and partial decalcification of already calcified matrix.
- Prolonged deficiency of vitamin D (with or without low intake) leads, in adults, to bones which contain regions of deformable, uncalcified osteoid.
