Tenosynovitis

  • This is an infection of the synovial sheaths, like from a puncture of palm by a rusty nail.
  • The digit swells up and movement becomes painful.
  • This is usually confined to the affected digit.
  • If neglected, the synovial sheath may rupture and spread to the midpalmar space then through the carpal tunnel to the forearm, especially if it occurs in the little finger or the thumb.
