Conn's Syndrome

- Hyperaldosteronism (Conn's Syndrome) is caused by an aldosterone-secreting tumor
- Is characterized by the following:
a) hypertension (b/c aldosterone increases Na+ reabsorption, which leads to increases in ECF volume and blood volume)
b) hypokalemia (b/c aldosterone increases K+ secretion)
c) metabolic alkalosis (b/c aldosterone increases H+ secretion)
d) decreased renin secretion (b/c increased ECF volume and blood pressure inhibit renin secretion by negative feedback)
