Multiple Rib Fractures

- This is a fracture of one or more ribs in more than one place.
- In multiple rib fractures, the involved segment of the chest wall is freely movable.
- there is paradoxical breathing.  This is where the loose segment of the chest wall moves inward on inspiration and outward on expiration.
- The patient has what is called "flail chest" or "stove-in chest"
