- Beginning at puberty, many Leydig cells display rod-shaped or wedge-shaped rectangular or diamond-shaped protein crystals in different numbers and sizes. These protein crystals are named Reinke crystals; named after anatomist, Friedrich B. Reinke (1862-1919).
