Karl Wilhelm von Kupffer

- The inner surfaces of the liver sinusoids are lined with fenestrated epithelium.  Kupffer cells are other fixed cells in this lining.  Because of their often star-like shape, they used to be called "stellate cells of Kupffer" (named after Karl Wilhelm von Kupffer, 1829-1902).
